Kansas City, Kansas, and Wyandotte County property tax rates may rise

A proposal scheduled to be unveiled Thursday night could increase the property tax rate for both Kansas City, Kansas, and Wyandotte County. According to Commissioner Tom Burroughs, the plan County Administrator David Johnston has would increase the mil or property tax rate five points each in the city and county and would potentially raise an additional $20 million in revenues for the Unified Government. Burroughs said many questions need to be answered before there’s a property tax rate increase.
