Properties in London are infamous for being incredibly expensive, with flats on offer for more than half a million pounds and houses going for far more. But a gorgeous house with three bedrooms in South East London is currently being auctioned for just £220,000 – around the same price as a one-bedroom flat in many parts of London.
This mid-terraced house in Orpington has a lot of potential, as well as containing some interesting features inside. This includes a red-brick wall with a statement fireplace at the centre.
But from photos showing inside the property, it’s clear a lot of work will be needed to do up the house, which explains the price tag attached. Pictures taken from several of the rooms show ripped up skirting boards and dirty walls, as well as grubby carpets and a sad-looking front garden.

The structure of the house is also quite strange. The position of the staircase seems very random within the joint entrance hall and living room area. It’s also placed in a way that cuts the otherwise spacious room in two, and will inevitably cause people to duck – or hit their heads.
The other big issue is that the house only has one shower and toilet – for three bedrooms – and it’s located downstairs right at the back of the house and through the kitchen. So it’s not the most practical, especially if you need to go for a wee in the middle of the night.
A video also included within the advert for the house shows the layout of the building more clearly. The front door opens onto the joint front room and entrance hall, with the stairs half-way in between.
Through the long front room is the kitchen, which currently has no door and is decorated with white tiling and black countertops. Through the kitchen is the bathroom, with a stand-up shower, toilet and sink.
Also accessed through the front room is a very long, thin garden that is mostly patio, but with lots of potential for more green-fingered renovators. Back inside and up the stairs is a small landing off which are three bedrooms. The video shows that many of the walls appear damaged.
Clive Emson Auctioneers describe the property as “a mid-terrace house situated in Cross Road, an unmade road off Poverest Road which in turn lies off the A224 close to local facilities and a short drive to the A20 (Sidcup bypass). The house has a gas heating system via radiators, double glazed windows and is now in need of refurbishment.”
Bidding will go live on this property on March 18. The auction will close on March 20. For more information about the property, and to register your interest, click here.
