Property agent regulation enquiry taking place in parliament today

The House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee will undertake an enquiry into whether property agents should be regulated today.

It will focus on residential agents, while appearing at the committee will be representatives from campaign group Generation Rent, as well as the Leasehold Knowledge Partnership, a leaseholders’ charity.

The session will run from 10.30am and can be followed live on Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster.

Possible questions include:

  1. what are the key challenges facing tenants when dealing with letting agents?
  2. how easy is it currently for tenants and leaseholders to complain about property agents?
  3. would a regulator of property agents be able to deal with the challenges tenants and leaseholders face with property agents?
  4. would you support a code of practice that agents would have to sign up to as a condition of their license to practice?
