Classy St Georges ‘dream home’ offers a taste of the Mediterranean

A St Georges home is offering a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of working life, and is ready to be enjoyed for generations to come.

Vendor Marilyn and her husband John, who bought the property at 5 Craighill Rd in 1996, are selling their dream home with a $2.9 to $3.1m price guide.

It was a 1950s-built home when they bought it but the couple seized the opportunity to bowl it over and replace it with their dream build some years later.

It has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. Picture: supplied.

It opens onto the entertainment area as well. Picture: supplied.

“We owned a motel in the area and we were driving past one day and saw it was for sale and we thought it had a lot of potential with the size of the block,” Marilyn says.

“We lived in it for five years, so we had plenty of time to decide what we wanted to build.

“It’s everything we could have wanted and it’s turned out beautifully.

“It’s been wonderful for us really, but we’re just getting too old now to stay in this big house and are looking to downsize.”

The couple recruited the help of Alan Sheppard Constructions to take their dream from vision to reality and say they couldn’t be happier with the end result.

“Quality was paramount to us and that comes through in all of the fixtures and fittings we’ve used,” Marilyn says.

“It’s all just been really well done.

“The home’s fantastic, but the yard is equally as impressive.

“The gardens really are our pride and joy – they’re just gorgeous and they really make it feel very private and safe.

“Our daughter grew up there and during the 28 years we were here she had lots of school friends over.

“I have a large family back in the UK and they’ve all been over, and lots of nieces and nephews have stayed with us during their gap years, and it’s just been wonderful to share it with people.

The bedrooms are large with plenty of space to put more than just a bed. Picture: supplied.

“It’s really just the perfect home for that.

“We’ve had lots of functions and had 18ths here and it’s big enough to put a marquee up in the back yard, so my daughter had a sit-down dinner out there for her 21st.

“We’ve also had pre-wedding drinks and photos here for some other friends, so it’s been well used and well loved.

“Everyone loves it here.”

The home offers some 452sq m of indoor and outdoor living space over its three levels and has up to four bedrooms, a formal lounge and dining room, a light-filled family room, and an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area opening to a covered alfresco area overlooking the home’s sparkling in-ground pool, with a solar system and a Tesla battery helping keep running costs down.

And all of this, Marilyn says, within a short walk of quality schools, shops and open green spaces.

“We’re sad to be leaving, but it’s time for another family to love it like we have.”
