87% clear MahaRERA’s exam for real estate agents in state

Mumbai: Of the 4,769 candidates who appeared for the fifth real estate agents’ exam conducted by MahaRERA in the state, 4,165 (87%) have cleared the same. A total of 13,370 candidates have so far qualified to become real estate agents. The regular body had earlier suspended the registration of over 20,000 agents who failed to meet the mandatory requirements of training and certification.Of the 4,165 candidates, 3,553 are men and 612 women. Interestingly, of the 4,165 qualified agents, 196 are senior citizens.
In Jan last year, MahaRERA had issued an order making it mandatory for real estate agents to undergo training and get certified. A real estate agent is a link between the homebuyers and developers, and in most instances, flat buyers first get in touch with the agents before they go ahead with their purchase. It is the real estate agents who provide the potential home buyer with all the initial information about projects.
Therefore, according to MahaRERA, it is imperative for the agents to be well-versed in the provisions of the RERA Act. The agents need to have knowledge about various aspects of the project and the real estate industry, such as the developer’s credibility, the validity of land titles, RERA-compliant carpet area, commencement certificates received for the project, and approvals from the local authorities. Besides, aspects such as the agreement for sale, allotment letter, carpet area, and defect liability period, among others. A home buyer decides to make a purchase based on the information provided to him.
According to MahaRERA, of the 47,000 agents, the registration of 13,785 agents was cancelled owing to non-renewal, including some who cancelled the registration on their own. Subsequently, by April-end this year, MahaRERA suspended the registration of over 20,000 agents who failed to meet the mandatory requirements of training and certification up to Dec 31.
