MasterChef star’s mystery $15.25m trophy home buy

The mystery buyer of one of Mosman’s grand Federation houses has been revealed as MasterChef contestant Jimmy Seervai – back for real estate seconds.

The food scientist known for his hot Indian curries sold two houses in Mosman last year and announced he was moving his family down to Nowra where he runs a vitamin gummy business.

However he clearly wanted another serving of prestige Mosman real estate as records show he is the buyer of Cambria, a mansion on 1740 sqm of land with water views.

The property, on the corner of Redan St and Balmoral Ave hit the headlines last year when its owners relisted it for $17m having never moved in.

Now that the sale has settled property records reveal Jimmy Seervai snapped up the 1906 house for $15.25m just before Christmas last year.

There was intense local interest in Cambria on the Balmoral Slopes as the four-bedroom mansion was bought by private equity firm Potentia Capital co-founder Andrew Grey and his wife Emma in July 2022 for $17m then put back on the market seven months later.

The renovated mansion house at 29 Redan St sat on the shelf for 263 days and was marketed by two different agencies before Jimmy scooped it up late November.

“It took ten days to negotiate, I gave them a deadline and really the deal was too good to pass up,” Mr Seervai said.

The home sat on the market for 263 days.

“I think people got spooked with the property on and off the market while I saw the long-term opportunity,” he said.

Jimmy and his wife Eloise had a big year in real estate last year. They sold two Mosman houses in Esther Rd for a combined $19.8m having abandoned plans to build a big family home with a pool on the combined blocks. At the time he announced he was relocating to Nowra where he runs his business and employs 150 people.

But the couple also decided to come back for property seconds and acquire a Mosman investment that could also serve as a family home for their five children down the track. They purchased Cambria through Ray White Lower North Shore.

Jimmy and Eloise loved the amazing renovation and the views and could picture their children running down through the house and playing in the pool.
