Real estate agent called out after major error in promotional flyer

A real estate agent was accused of deliberately trying to deceive Aussies after a promotional flyer mistakenly claimed he had sold a property for $260,000 more than the selling price.

The three-bedroom home on Lygon Avenue in Clyde, about 50k southeast of Melbourne‘s CBD, was purchased for $650,000 on April 10. 

However, a promotional flyer commissioned by Empire Real Estate Agents claimed their agent Aseem Jhanji had sold the property for $910,000. 

Daily Mail Australia understands the incorrect figure on the flyer was a printing error with a third party responsible for printing and distributing the flyers. 

An eagle-eyed local who received the flyer in the mail posted a photo to Reddit and compared the sum to the price on the realestate.com listing.

As a result, Aussies mistakenly thought that Mr Jhanji was being dishonest about the selling price to boost his status as an agent in the local area.

‘Can this sort of thing be reported? Not that it will make any difference,’ one wrote. 

‘Are you really suggesting a Real Estate Agent may be dishonest? Get out of here,’ a second commented.

A third shared: ‘I reported an agent for doing this once. Provided all the proof and everything. Heard absolutely nothing back so no idea if anything came of it.’

One commenter said Empire Real Estate Agent were aware of the printing error. 

‘Just had a chat to one of their team member and they are aware of this blunder or mistake since yesterday,’ she wrote. 

‘They told me that they have been receiving lot of messages and calls since this incorrect flyer went out.

‘Someone needs to learn peer review after printing.’

Empire Real Estate Agents told Daily Mail Australia in a statement: ‘A recent advertisement of a property situated at 42 Lygon Avenue, on behalf of Clyde by Empire Real Estate Agents disclosed a human error in preparing the advertisement.

‘Empire Real Estate Agents had arranged, via a 3rd party, to prepare advertisements for two properties:

‘The first advertisement concerned the sale of a property situated at 74 Graziers Crescent, Clyde North, Vic., which sold for $910,000.

‘The second advertisement concerned the sale of a property situated at 42 Lygon Avenue, Clyde, Vic. which sold for $650,000.

‘The printing error occurred when the format page for the said first advertisement for the 74 Graziers Crescent property was used in preparation for the second advertisement, namely, the 42 Lygon Avenue property. 

‘All property details were changed except for the fact that the price of the Graziers Crescent property was accidentally kept as the price for the Lygon Avenue property, that latter of which should have been $650,000 and not $910,000, (which was the Graziers Crescent Price). 

‘Empire Real Estate humbly apologies for any inconvenience caused by the human error in its advertisement.’
