White & Case has strengthened its global real estate and M&A offering with the hire of new partner John Cahill from Paul Hastings, where he was a partner and the head of the real estate finance practice group.

“John is an impactful addition to our global real estate platform and our Asia offering,” said Vivian Tsoi, White & Case’s regional section head for Asia-Pacific M&A and corporate. “His international practice and experience in the back-leverage market further enhances our position as a leading adviser for sophisticated investors across the full spectrum of matters in the real estate sector,” Tsoi added.

Cahill, who will split his time between Hong Kong and New York, specialises in advising borrowers, sponsors and institutional investors across Asia and the US on financing and M&A for real estate investments. Cahill’s practice focuses particularly on the back-leverage market for real asset-focused funds and other investment vehicles, with his experience also covering real estate-focused private capital participants across Asia.

Cahill was a long-term partner at Paul Hastings, which he joined in 2000 when his previous firm Battle Fowler was acquired by and combined with Paul Hastings. At Paul Hastings, he headed the US firm’s real estate finance practice group while serving as a partner in the real estate private equity practice.
