Repeat offender arrested and charged with possessing stolen property and breaching probation

24-13506

April 26, 2024, members of the Kingston Police Street Crime Unit were engaged in general patrol activities in the vicinity of Princess Street and Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard in midtown Kingston.

At approximately 2:15 p.m. officers observed a male acting in a suspicious manner while walking westbound on Princess Street. While speaking to this male it was discovered that he was in possession of cellular phones, vehicle keys and numerous forms of personal identification which included a Canadian passport, health card and driver’s license that were not in his name.

Upon further investigation, officers received confirmation from the owner of this property that their purse had been stolen an hour earlier while they were in a Kingston area hospital being treated for a severe medical condition. The theft of the property had left the victim and their partner with no means of communication with family, financial access, or a means of transportation home.

The 28-year-old Brockville resident was subsequently charged with possession of stolen property and four counts of breach of probation.

The accused, at the time of this offence, was on three separate probation orders out of Brockville, Ontario for trafficking stolen property, two counts of break and enter, theft under $5000 and three counts of failing to comply with court ordered conditions. He was held at police headquarters pending a bail hearing.

Kingston Police reminds the public to please remain diligent with their personal belongings while in public spaces within our community and to report any suspicious behavior immediately.
