A teenager who “got himself into a lot of bother rapidly” has been ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work.

Dylan Dalton of Telford Street, Inverness, but who comes from the Perth area, was also placed under a year’s social work supervision when he appeared for sentence at Inverness Sheriff Court.

The 19 year old fell out with his partner after an argument on the evening of April 16 last year in her home in Mackintosh Road, Inverness.

Fiscal depute Sharon Ralph told Sheriff David Harvie that Dalton threatened to smash up the house if she called the police and she left the property.

“He sent her photographs of damaged items which were not damaged when she left and she called the police,” he said.

Dalton was bailed with a condition not to approach or contact the woman but was found in her company in Inverness on June 14 – the day after he threatened to spit on two female strangers in a McDonald’s restaurant.

He admitted malicious damage, breach of bail and threatening behaviour. He also pleaded guilty to attempting to pervert the course of justice by giving police false details after he was questioned by officers on an unrelated matter in Millburn Road, Inverness on December 8, 2023.

Defence solicitor David Patterson said his client had returned to the Perth area and did not intend returning to Inverness. He added that the relationship was over.

“He is not emotionally equipped to be in that relationship, such is his immaturity, he said. “Since moving away, he has not been in contact with her. Being on remand has been a short sharp shock for him.”

Sheriff Harvie also imposed a one-year non harassment order to protect Dalton’s former partner and told him: “After not previously offending, you got yourself into a lot of bother rapidly.”
