Nabbanja Urges Stronger Accountability in Public Finance Management

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has urged strengthened accountability, transparency, and disciplined execution in the management of public resources, emphasizing that they are central to achieving Uganda’s economic transformation agenda.

Nabbanja made the remarks while opening the 4th Public Finance Management Conference organized by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda at Imperial Resort Beach Hotel in Entebbe on Wednesday evening.

She commended the Institute for convening what she described as an important platform for stakeholders to reflect on and strengthen systems that support national development and economic transformation.

The Prime Minister highlighted that government has rolled out several programmes aimed at driving wealth creation and inclusive growth, including the Parish Development Model and Emyooga.

She said these initiatives are designed to stimulate production, create jobs, and support efforts to transition the remaining 30% of Ugandan households into the money economy.

“I understand that domestic revenue mobilisation is one of the key topics at this conference. This is critical. The question is not only how much revenue we raise, but how sustainably and equitably we raise it, and how effectively we utilise it to deliver value to citizens,” Nabbanja said.

She emphasized that the success of these programmes depends on strong planning, disciplined execution, and robust accountability systems.

Nabbanja further called on Accounting Officers and finance professionals to uphold integrity, transparency, and efficiency in the management of public resources, noting that prudent financial management remains critical in ensuring government programmes deliver tangible results for citizens.
