Davide Brivio is heading to Honda at the end of the 2026 MotoGP season to become a key consultant for the Japanese brand, according to reports in Italy.

The Italian motorsport manager took up his position at the Aprilia-backed Trackhouse Racing outfit ahead of the 2024 season, the American satellite team’s maiden season in the premier class. He had previously served a stint at the Alpine F1 team.

Is Davide Brivio the final missing piece for Honda to return to winning MotoGP titles?

Brivio is well known for his leadership of the factory Yamaha MotoGP team during their most successful-ever period during the late 2000s/early 2010s.

Having navigated the tumultuous relationship of Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo, the Italian is well-versed in managing a highly successful MotoGP outfit, as well as big-name riders.

Davide Brivio set to join Honda in ‘key consulting role’ for 2027 MotoGP season

According to Sky Italia, Brivio will be moving away from a trackside managerial position to take up a ‘key consulting role’ for Honda’s MotoGP efforts at the start of the next campaign.

The premier class is undergoing a series of changes to the technical regulations, which are offering every factory a fresh shot at emerging as the best brand on the grid.

The current Trackhouse boss will be taking up a ‘key consulting role’ to focus on the strategic vision of HRC and the overall organisation of the factory team.

Current team boss, Alberto Puig, is expected to remain in his position as a ‘liaison’ between Honda and their stable of riders.

While a lot of decisions regarding Honda’s efforts in 2027 have already been made, such as the team deciding to cease development of their 2026 bikes to focus on next year, the manufacturer’s higher-ups have decided to pull the trigger.

Honda reportedly see Brivio as the perfect candidate to take the factory outfit back to their winning ways, after several years as a midfield team on the grid.

Brivio’s expertise in reviving a factory outfit to class leaders was evident during his stint at Yamaha. He recently highlighted Valentino Rossi’s ‘crazy decision’ to leave Honda for Yamaha in 2004, which has seemingly come around full circle now.

It remains to be seen who will succeed the Italian in his current role at Trackhouse.
