The case against Gauteng Hawks head Ebrahim Kadwa, the suspended deputy head of Crime Intelligence, Major General Feroz Khan, and businessman Tariq Downes is expected to return to the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.
The trio was released on R20,000 bail after being charged with defeating the ends of justice and contravening laws regulating the possession of precious metals.

Khan’s appearance in court remains uncertain after he was hospitalised following an apparent assassination attempt.
The charges stem from a 2021 incident in which Downes was found with a raw gold bar and allegedly claimed he was an undercover police agent.
Kadwa and Khan are accused of confirming the claim, leading to his release.
Police said subsequent investigations established that Downes was not a registered South African Police Service (SAPS) informer and should never have been released.
Khan’s devices were seized during the arrest at his luxury Houghton home, and they are now the subject of the Madlanga Commission.
Evidence from these devices has been led at the commission, where WhatsApp messages showed alleged improper conduct linked to Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema, Carnilinx tobacco manufacturer Mohammed Sayed, his business partner, Adriano Mazzotti, former police reservist Wiandre Pretorius, who provided security for Sayed, and former Special Task Force officer Matipandile Sotheni, who is facing 16 criminal charges, including murder and attempted murder.
