Man charged in connection with death at Cumbernauld property


A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of John McMonigle in Cumbernauld.

Around 9.20am on Wednesday, 15 July, 2026, the body of the 45-year-old was found within a property in the town’s Glenhove Road.

A 37-year-old man is due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Monday, July 20.

Police said enquiries remain ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young, senior investigating officer from the Major Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts remain with Mr McMonigle’s family at what is an extremely difficult time for them.

“They are being supported by specially trained officers and have asked for their privacy to be respected.

“A police presence will remain in the area while our enquiries are ongoing. I would like to thank the local community for their support and patience as our investigation continues.”
