Richmond County property assessment notices being mailed this week

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Property owners in Augusta will soon get their 2026 tax assessments.

The notices were approved by the Board of Assessors on June 22 and were to start being mailed Monday.

The notice is not a tax bill. It is a required notice of the value placed on real and personal property for the current tax year. The mailing of the notices also begins the state-mandated 45-day appeal period.

Property owners will notice two key updates on this year’s assessment forms:

New notice format: Georgia Senate Bill 566 changed the required statewide notice format. The updated form replaces the previous tax estimate tables with an “Estimated Tax Savings” section and includes instructions for filing an appeal or applying for homestead exemption during the 45-day period.

Local floating homestead exemption: This year’s notice also reflects the implementation of Augusta’s local floating homestead exemption. The exemption is intended to provide property tax relief for qualifying primary residences by limiting certain increases in assessed value at the local level.

Property owners may visit the Board of Assessors website at augustarichmondtaxassessor.com to review their property information. Through the Property Search tool, residents can file property appeals electronically from their individual property record page.

Appeals may also be submitted by mail, fax, or in person at the Board of Assessors office.

For questions about property values, exemptions, or the appeals process, contact the Board of Assessors at 706-821-2310.
