New integrated waste recycling plant at Verna to recover precious metals, critical minerals | Goa News

Panaji: An integrated waste recycling facility with an annual processing capacity of 50,000 metric tonnes was inaugurated at the Verna industrial estate on Saturday, bringing e-waste recycling, precious metals recovery, critical minerals refining and PET plastic recycling under one roof.Spread over 26,664 sq ft, the facility will handle the entire recycling chain, from collection and dismantling to segregation, material recovery and refining. By recovering critical minerals and precious metals from waste streams, the plant aims to support a circular economy and reduce dependence on imports.Operated by PureCycle Recycling, a subsidiary of BlackGold, the facility is part of a broader national push to strengthen domestic supplies of critical minerals and strategic materials.Chief minister Pramod Sawant said the facility adds a new dimension to Goa’s waste-management ecosystem by enabling the recovery of high-value materials and returning them to productive use.“It also aligns with Goa’s vision of building an economy that supports tourism alongside manufacturing, technology, services, start-ups and green industries,” Sawant said. The facility is equipped with over 15 specialised processing systems and a 3 CMD zero-liquid-discharge effluent treatment plant.PureCycle became eligible under the Union mines ministry’s Incentive Scheme for the Promotion of Critical Mineral Recycling under the National Critical Minerals Mission in May this year.BlackGold CEO Prabhu Ram Radhakrishnan said the facility is designed to recover and refine strategic materials from secondary resources, strengthening domestic resource security and circular supply chains. He added that it will cater to the technology, electronics and telecom sectors, besides offering secure data-destruction and IT asset-disposition services.“At a time when countries are competing for access to critical minerals, the ability to recover and refine our own resources is an economic and strategic necessity,” said BlackGold co-founder and COO Pankaj Tirmanwar.Goa State Pollution Control Board and Goa Industrial Development Corporation officials were present at the inauguration.
