Dead Horse is a London/Kent noise-garage post-punk trio made up of Kevin Lennon on vocals, sax, and bass, Josh Kemp on guitar, and Duncan Clark on drums.
Blending jagged riffs, mutant surf lines, deranged sax bursts and absurdist lyrics, the band sits somewhere between garage-punk chaos, post-punk satire and theatrical collapse. For fans of OSEES, Warmduscher, Viagra Boys, The Cramps and Jay Reatard, Dead Horse will be a bright ray of sunshine.
After releasing the Dead Horse I EP in 2020 and Hot Martyr in 2022, the band returns with their debut album Caught The Nonsense, out 11 September 2026 on Sister 9 Recordings. Recorded with Connor Jones at Humm Studios, Bristol, and mastered by Shawn Joseph at Optimum Mastering, the album captures Dead Horse at their sharpest, strangest, and most unhinged.
“Silver Spoons” comes from the Menagerie Trois EP (2024), and launches itself at the listener in a manner indicative of the band’s style. A surf-guitar riff leads to a guttural vocal that carries well more than half the energy of this tune. Not that the performances on bass, guitar, and drums are lackluster by any stretch, as they grind their way through two and a half minutes of dark absurdism to a pounding finish.
But the hysteria Lennon conjures over sometimes barely understandable words is mildly alarming and strangely attractive. Who knew silver spoons could get this much attention outside of Antiques Roadshow?
