Come check out our “Adopt-A-Kennel” program where our local individuals and businesses can show the community their support for our area’s homeless animals. This month’s (AUGUST) Adopt-A-Kennel is in memory of Kathy Haas. Everyone who knew her, loved her and is missing this kind and generous lady, who went out of her way to help everyone (furry and non-furry alike). Linda Hedges/Mary Ellinger Memorial Fund
At this time the spay/neuter reimbursement fees are still being waived for the felines. We will continue to waive the spay/neuter fees until the Linda Hedges/Mary Ellinger Memorial fund is depleted. We have truly seen a dramatic increase in the feline adoptions since we’ve been able to waive the spay/neuter fees for them, let’s see if it helps with their barking friends.

What does that mean exactly? It means that these three are absolutely no charge to an approved applicant, thanks to the generosity of the kind souls that made the donation.

Make Sure Fun Time With Pets and Children is Safe.
It’s warmer, and families are outside to spend more time with their pets. Here’s some helpful information to help keep the fun times safe:
SAFE GAMES
Safe games include any game in which there is no direct contact between dog and child while either the dog and child are excited. All games should be supervised by an adult.
DANGEROUS GAMES
Dangerous games include any games in which there is direct contact between child and dog, the dog is chasing the child, the dog is stealing items to instigate a chase, the dog is overly excited or the strength of the dog is pitted against the strength of the child.
DANGER SIGNS
If your dog shows any of the following behaviors toward family members or guests, there is a serious bite risk and a canine behaviorist should be consulted (this dog should never be loose around children):
• Growls, snarls, lunges or snaps (even if this is to protect a person or food bowl);
• Raises tail when approaching children or when approached by children.

At the shelter for two months and waiting…
Hello world! I’m “OPHELIA”, a short haired red Aussie and Lab mix. I was told that I came here back in June because my humans moved into an apartment and felt that I would like it better with a larger home to run and play in. “VADER”, a three year old male black Lab mix arrived at our shelter seeking a new home because his previous owners had too many pets. This charming and active guy is a tad bit shy at first, but once he warms up to you (he was our best friend from day one), watch out, you’ve got a best friend and companion who will do nothing but brighten your day. ADOPTION NOTE: Vader’s adoption fees have been paid in full, he is a Sponsored Adoption, he is free of charge to an approved applicant.

Find the love of your life at the McCook Humane Society located 100 South Street in McCook, NE. Hours open for adoption are 2:00pm until 5:00pm Monday through Friday and Noon until 4:00pm on Saturdays. The shelter is closed to the public on Tuesdays and Sundays. Visitors and Volunteers are welcome during our open hours.
If you need to surrender an animal, please call first during regular business hours to make an appointment to bring the animal in.
