Amy Hunt has won her first gold medal in 100 meters at the European Championships and also her first individual gold in her senior career, on day 1 of the 2026 edition in Birmingham, on Monday, which is also her second European gold medal after Great Britain won 4×100 m relay in Rome 2024.
Hunt finished the 100m race in exactly 11 seconds, ahead the Polish Ewa Swoboda (11.02) and the Belgian Delphine Nkansa (11.06), although she did not improve her 10.98 seconds that earned her a second place at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last month, finishing second behind Zoe Hobbs of New Zealand. Her best mark remains 10.97 seconds, raced in Stockholm on June 7.
Hunt, 24 years old, also has silver medals in 200 m at the World Championships in Tokyo last September, and silver in 4×100 m relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She admitted to BBC that after “such a string of silvers, she was starting to get a bit fed up”.
“My parents gifted me these gold earrings to finally level up, because I wear all-silver jewellery. They said it was time for gold – they left me that note two nights ago – so it made me quite emotional. It was definitely time for me to come of age here.“
Great Britain now has two medals after one day of Championships, after winning silver in mixed 4x400m relay.
