Ukraine is bracing for a harsh winter as Russian attacks intensify against its infrastructure and key export sectors, further deepening the country’s budget crisis, according to officials. Economy Minister Oleksandr Kravchenko reported an approximate $10 billion damage to infrastructure and assets due to Russian air strikes this year.
The economic implications extend as export blockage and attacks cost an additional 1.5% of GDP. While the front line remains stagnant, both nations increasingly target economic assets. Kravchenko highlighted the current critical conditions of Ukraine’s infrastructure and economy at a conference in Kyiv.
Ongoing attacks, especially near Kyiv, and blockade of the Black Sea ports threaten around $40 billion in export revenue, crucial for Ukraine’s agricultural and steel products. With domestic revenue falling short, Ukraine faces budget challenges, forcing defense and budget strategies adaptation amidst ongoing conflict and negotiations for international support.
