We are standing at the top of the October slide. One quick push, and we’re barreling all the way to the bottom—the new year—past fall, through Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, and on through the holidays and every event that comes with them.
For jewelers, the holidays have already begun. Upcoming events like the JIS Show in Miami offer a final opportunity to round out stocking plans, while customer requests—and suggestions gleaned everywhere from the sales floor to social media (and here on JCK!)—might polish off the rest.
My inbox for September was rich with sapphires, naturally, and you won’t hear any complaints about that here. Statement pieces were another highly represented category—rings in particular, perhaps a preview of what shoppers will be looking for in the season ahead.
If September’s submissions are any indication, this may not be the season for playing it safe. Color, scale, and pieces with plenty of presence are heading into the busiest stretch of the year right alongside us. Down the slide we go.
