Rural communities can apply for REDIP funding

Rural and remote communities, First Nations and not-for-profit organizations can now submit applications to fund projects that strengthen and diversify their economies.

The fifth intake of the province’s Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP) is now open, with funding applications being accepted until Nov. 20.

In its first four years, REDIP will have invested more than $156 million into 525 projects throughout B.C. This investment is creating an estimated 7,500 jobs in rural areas. These projects help diversify and strengthen rural and Indigenous communities in B.C. by making investments in economic infrastructure, a Ministry of Jobs and Economic Growth media release said.

Communities can receive funding through three streams:

* Implementation – supports construction of new economic infrastructure directly linked to B.C.’s Look West strategy or major projects of regional significance, with as much as $1 million.

* Development – supports planning projects or economic analyses that enable Look West Sector projects or other major projects to begin within six months of planning completion, with as much as $100,000.

* Community transition – supports communities experiencing a major economic change resulting from the loss of a major employer or linked to new major projects in the province.

Business BCeIDs are required as part of the REDIP application process. As BCeID account registration can take several weeks, applicants are encouraged to register early.
