Partners Group Overhauls Buyout Desk and Fund Shelf as Insiders Buy CHF 21 Million of Stock

Partners Group is redrawing the map of its business while navigating one of the roughest stretches in its recent history as a listed company. The Swiss private-markets manager has spent the past several weeks trimming staff in its buyout arm, launching a new credit vehicle and steering a listed investment company into an orderly wind-down — all against the backdrop of a share price that has shed 38% since the start of the year.

The stock closed Friday at EUR 655.20, up 1.1% on the session. Intraday quotes showed a 1.5% gain to EUR 658.00.

Buyout Desk Slimmed, Insiders Open Their Wallets

Inside the private-equity division, dozens of roles worldwide were either cut or reassigned, according to Bloomberg. Some employees left the firm outright, while others moved into growth areas such as infrastructure and royalties. A company spokesperson attributed the changes to routine performance reviews and stressed that overall team headcount remains in line with its long-term average. Management also pointed to heavier operational demands tied to overseeing portfolio companies.

On the leadership side, the signal ran the other way. Media reports said members of the management team bought shares worth roughly CHF 21 million in total — a move the market typically reads as a vote of confidence in the group’s fundamental direction.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Partners Group?

Shareholders Back Full Liquidation of Listed Vehicle

At the product level, attention has centred on Partners Group Private Equity Limited, the UK-listed investment company run by the manager. Investors holding 74.1% of the shares opted for the liquidity option on offer, a vote that set in motion the orderly realisation of the entire portfolio. Reuters reported the decision came amid rising redemption requests across selected private-markets funds. A subsequent shareholder ballot delivered 99.9% backing for the orderly disposal of all assets of the investment company. The original restructuring plan was shelved in favour of liquidation. Proceeds from the asset sales are to be distributed to investors on a semi-annual basis starting at the end of March 2027. The resolution concerns the specialist fund vehicle only and leaves the listed holding company’s operating business untouched.

Credit Engine Takes Centre Stage

To meet shifting client demand, the asset manager is leaning into yield-heavy strategies. Roughly a week ago it rolled out a global multi-sector private credit income strategy aimed at both institutional investors and wealthy private clients. Structured as an open-ended evergreen fund, the vehicle targets returns in the high single-digit to low double-digit percentage range, generated mainly through running interest income. In a related publication titled “Higher-for-Longer,” the firm analysed the persistently altered macroeconomic rate environment.

Work on the existing range continues in parallel. Management announced it will split the flagship Global Value SICAV into two separate portfolios — one for accumulating share classes and one for distributing tranches — to better match investor preferences.

A Date With the AuM Numbers

Concrete evidence on how client money has held up will not arrive until early next year. Partners Group Holding AG is scheduled to publish assets under management as of 31 December 2026 on 13 January 2027 at 17:45 after the market close. That release should show how resilient inflows have remained in a demanding environment — and how far the expanding private credit business can offset the pressures bearing down on classic private equity.
