How to earn Flying Blue Platinum status strategically

A traveler outlines a multi-year plan to reach Flying Blue Platinum status using credit card bonuses and status matches. Key steps include timing card applications, hitting spending thresholds, and leveraging Bilt’s match. The strategy hinges on precise 12-month XP cycles and annual renewals.

The traveler holds Gold status through January 2027 via a prior Bilt match and plans to re-match in February 2027. They will apply for the Air France KLM Visa in November 2026, meet the $3K minimum spend by February 2027, then spend $25K by October to unlock 160 XP at the card’s anniversary. Total XP from card and match should hit 300 by November 2027.

Maintaining Platinum requires 300 XP annually; card spending yields 160 XP, leaving a 140 XP gap. A second card can close it, but only one bonus XP is allowed per 24 months. The traveler must spread spending or use other XP-earning methods to sustain status beyond the first year.
