180 Billion Yuan Scale Unveiled: This Year’s Largest M&A Fund Officially Launches

PE Daily learned that Advent International, a renowned private equity firm, announced that its global fund portfolio has completed fundraising of 300 billion US dollars (approximately 2000 billion RMB).

Among them, the 11th flagship fund, namely Advent Global Private Equity XI (GPE XI), has raised nearly 270 billion US dollars (approximately 1800 billion RMB) — according to the disclosure of Advent International, GPE XI is the largest completed buyout fund globally in terms of fundraising size so far in 2026.

In addition, the newly launched Advent Mid-Market Private Equity fund has raised more than 30 billion US dollars.

This marks the 42nd year since Advent International was founded. To date, it manages assets of over 100 billion US dollars, with investment footprints spread across the globe. Now, new capital is in place.

$270 Billion + $30 Billion, Setting a New Buyout Fundraising Record

Back in May 2022, Advent Global Private Equity X (GPE X) hit its $25 billion fundraising cap within 6 months after the launch of fundraising, setting the largest fundraising record in the firm’s history and pushing its assets under management across the $100 billion threshold in one go.

Now, the record has been broken. It is reported that this round of fundraising has attracted a large number of new investors as well as additional commitments from existing LPs, covering a wide range of categories including public and private pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, endowments and foundations, institutional investors, family offices and high-net-worth individuals.

James Brocklebank, Managing Partner and Co-Chair of the Executive Committee of Advent International, said: “Over more than 40 years of investment journey, we deeply understand that by working hand in hand with outstanding management teams to build ever-lasting enterprises, excellent results will follow. In this highly challenging fundraising environment, investors still place firm trust in us, which not only reflects Advent International’s long-term stable investment performance, but also demonstrates our consistent adherence to investment discipline and our ability to continuously return capital to investors.”

2026 is one of the most active years for Advent’s exits to date. Official data shows that Advent has generated approximately $13 billion in returns through exits from 27 enterprises within the year; in the same period, it has invested approximately $10 billion in 38 new and existing portfolio companies.

Where will the new funds be invested? Advent International disclosed that, continuing its previous investment strategy, GPE XI will continue to focus on the European and North American markets, further deepen Advent International’s active layout in the Asia-Pacific market, and give full play to the advantages of its Latin American regional team.

It is worth noting that this fundraising also includes a new fund — Advent Mid-Market Private Equity. This is the first dedicated fund focused on smaller-scale buyouts and growth investments in Advent’s 42-year history, extending Advent International’s industry expertise-oriented investment approach that deeply empowers enterprise operation to new market areas.

Going forward, the mid-market fund will complement Advent’s GPE fund strategy, focusing on investing in enterprises with a valuation of no more than 1.25 billion US dollars, with a single equity investment size ranging from 100 million to 350 million US dollars.

Speaking of this round of fundraising, Li Xi’an, Managing Director and Head of Greater China at Advent International, said: “The successful $300 billion fundraising is not only a proud milestone in the development history of Advent International, but also of great significance to Advent International’s continued layout in the Greater China region, and we are very excited about it. We believe that these funds will further strengthen our capabilities, enabling us to continue to cooperate with outstanding management teams and help them achieve scaled development in the Greater China region and even across the globe.”

Footprints in the Asia-Pacific Region

Founded in 1984, Advent International is one of the largest and most experienced private equity funds in the world. It currently has 18 offices across five continents, with assets under management exceeding 109 billion US dollars, and has completed 460 investments in 45 countries.

Advent International is a long-time player in the Chinese market. Having deeply cultivated the Greater China market since 1993, the Advent International team has cumulatively invested more than 1.8 billion US dollars (including co-investments) here.

In September 2012, Advent International set up its office in Shanghai, and in September 2016, it established its office in Hong Kong, China. Since then, it has completed a number of high-profile buyouts and investments, including Guangsheng Capsule, Aimu Group (Serta China, King Koil), BioDuro-Sundia, Wagas, and Shuaike Pet, etc.

Since 2024, Advent has successively opened offices in Sydney, Tokyo, Abu Dhabi and other locations, and the importance of the Asia-Pacific region is on the rise.

At the beginning of 2026, Advent International further strengthened its layout in Hong Kong, designating it as the regional hub for investor engagement in the Asia-Pacific region, with Shi Xiaoni, Managing Director and Head of Asia-Pacific Investor Relations, based there to oversee regional fundraising and investor relations work.

Advent is not the only one that is setting its sights on the Asia-Pacific region.

In April this year, PE Daily learned from private equity firm EQT that its BPEA IX fund had completed fundraising, with a total subscription size of 15.6 billion US dollars (approximately 1000 billion RMB), oversubscribed, making it the largest private equity fund focused on the Asia-Pacific market at that time.

Subsequently, Bain Capital announced that its sixth Asian fund (“Asia Fund VI”) had completed its final fundraising, with a total size of 10.5 billion US dollars (approximately 700 billion RMB). That period coincided with the 20th anniversary of Bain Capital’s deep cultivation of the Asian market.

Blackstone’s third Asia private equity flagship fund (BCP Asia III) completed its final closing in June this year, with a final fundraising of 13.1 billion US dollars, hitting the fundraising cap, doubling the size of its second-phase fund, and making it the largest Asian PE fund of Blackstone to date.

Top PE firms are collectively replenishing new capital. These capital players with a keen sense of smell will not make hasty moves. They usually prepare the funds first, and then wait for an appropriate opportunity to buy the dip.
