A man’s been found guilty of murdering another man who died two weeks after being attacked in Birmingham.

Mark Regan, aged 60, was attacked inside Paul Holloway’s room in a property on Tew Park Road in Birmingham.

Our investigation established how both men had gone to the flat at around 1.45pm on 17 April this year.

Around 10 minutes later, a neighbour made a 999 call to police to say that a man later identified as Holloway, aged 39, was viciously attacking the victim, while another neighbour also phoned 999 in a call which had Mr Regan’s cries for help audible in the background.

Officers arrived just after 2pm and found Holloway, who was under the influence of cocaine, shouting for help and behaving erratically.

They found Mr Regan lying badly injured in the flat. He was taken to hospital but never regained consciousness and died on 30 April.

Regan was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. The charge was changed to murder following the death of Mr Regan, and he was convicted on Monday (2 November) following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

He will be sentenced on December 11.

Det Insp Ade George, who led the investigation, said: “Holloway claimed that Mr Regan had been attacked by someone else, and that it was he who had found him after the attack and had tried to raise the alarm.

“But all the evidence pointed to Holloway being the attacker, including a shoeprint made by his trainer which was found on Mr Regan’s jumper.

“This was a violent and sustained attack. Sadly we may never know the reason why it happened.

“Our thoughts are with Mr Regan’s family today and we hope that this verdict is able to give them some closure.”
