Mona McSharry brings home treble of gold medals


Ballyshannon Marlins swimmer Mona McSharry has brought home a treble of gold medals from the Irish Open Championship.

She dominated the competition in the 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke at the championships, which were held in Bangor.

The Grange, County Sligo native was in full control throughout all three Finals, setting some of the most competitive times recorded so far this year in the process.

The Paris 2024 Bronze medalist began the tournament with victory in the 50m Breaststroke, her time of 30.43s seeing her more than a second and a half ahead of second-placed Eimear Doyle.

McSharry set a new Irish record of 2:22.22 to win the 200m Final, with a 3.5s gap to Ellie McCartney in second.

Her 100m gold victory saw her finish 1.5s ahead of McCartney again, in a rapid time of 1:06.27.
