From International Student to Hedge Fund Founder

Hello, my name is Divyanshu Verma, and I am a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I helped found Verma Research Capital (VRC), a quantitative hedge fund focused on using technology, artificial intelligence and mathematical research to improve investment decision-making in asset management.

I am an international student from India, and I just completed my master’s in computer science in May 2025.

During my time at the university, I was actively involved in financial markets and served as a Quantitative Portfolio Manager in the Student Investment Club, where I worked on portfolio analysis, investment research and risk management.

I also worked as an Innovation Intern at the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center, where I gained exposure to entrepreneurship, venture building and innovation-driven business development.

Soon after graduation, I launched VRC with the vision of building a technology-driven investment firm that combines quantitative finance with modern computing infrastructure.

Since its launch in August 2025, VRC has raised $4.3 million in capital and has delivered approximately 26% returns since inception.

One of the key innovations at VRC is AEGIS, which stands for Autonomous Equity Grading and Intelligence System.

AEGIS is an LLM and AI-based proprietary research platform developed by VRC to improve the investment research and valuation process.

The system is designed to analyze annual reports, earnings calls, management quality, business fundamentals and valuation frameworks at scale, enabling research work that traditionally takes months to be completed in a matter of minutes.

My journey also reflects how technical education can be used not only to seek jobs but to build businesses and create opportunities for others.

In collaboration with UWM and the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center, I also initiated the VRC UWM Quantitative Research Program, an effort aimed at creating on-campus opportunities for students interested in quantitative finance, research and careers in capital markets and Wall Street.

VRC’s broader focus is on building a modern asset management platform that uses quantitative models, machine learning and systematic research processes to identify investment opportunities more efficiently.

My journey highlights the growing role of international graduates in building technology-driven businesses in the United States while creating pathways for future students to participate in innovation and finance.
