Duisburg, Germany – Joely Cherniss and Lauren Dubois won the gold medal for the United States in the women’s eight Grand Final at the U23 World Rowing Championships.
After trailing by .11 seconds after 500m to Great Britain, the United States ripped off a 1:41 in the next 500m to jump in front. The U.S. eight rowed to a 1:33 in the next 500m to go up almost 4.5 seconds and cruised to a 6.36 victory (6:05.7) over Great Britain (6:12.05).
“I’m very proud of Lauren and Joely for their work to help the United States to gold today,” said head coach Lori Dauphiny. “They have incredible job this season with Princeton and culiminated in a gold medal for their country. Congratulations to those two along with Milena Kontou and Liv Cheesmur for also earning medals this weekend!”
Kontou ’30 won the double sculls gold medal for Greece while Cheesmur helped the Great Britain 4- to a silver on Saturday.
