Daniel Roth Extra Flat Rose Gold Gilt: This watch celebrates the return of a form of haute horlogerie that had nearly disappeared

Since the revival of Daniel Roth in 2023 under the guidance of La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, the brand has continued to reinterpret the codes created by its founder. The new Extra Plat Rose Gold Gilt follows this approach by revisiting one of the models that most strongly represents the identity of the maison. This creation presents a vision of the dress watch in which every element, from the case to the movement, follows the principles of traditional haute horlogerie.

A rose gold double ellipse case faithful to the Daniel Roth DNA

The new Daniel Roth Extra Plat Rose Gold Gilt retains the immediately recognizable shape that contributed to the reputation of the maison: a double ellipse case with distinctive proportions. Crafted from 5N rose gold, it features a fully polished finish that highlights the curves of the case and its characteristic profile.

Measuring 38.6 mm by 35.5 mm with a thickness of only 7.7 mm, the watch adopts a compact format designed to preserve the elegance of an extra-thin timepiece. The case also incorporates the traditional central gadroon, a stylistic element that has become a signature of Daniel Roth.

Protection is provided by a flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on the front, while a transparent caseback allows the mechanical movement to be viewed. The watch offers 30 metres of water resistance, suitable for standard daily use.

It is fitted with a calfskin leather strap featuring a 20 mm lug width and a gold-tone pin buckle. The curved spring bars ensure a harmonious integration of the strap with the case’s distinctive shape.

A black and gold dial crafted using artisanal techniques

The dial is one of the most remarkable elements of this new version. Daniel Roth chose a gold base decorated with fine striped guilloché, manually executed by an artisan using a traditional rose engine.

After this step, the surface undergoes several galvanic treatments to achieve a deep black colour. This method preserves the visual richness of the metal while creating a strong contrast with the gold indications.

The Roman numerals, the Daniel Roth signature and the individual dial number are not simply applied to the surface. They are protected during the treatment process and revealed when the black layers are removed. The gold beneath the surface then naturally appears, creating the impression that the indications emerge directly from the dial.

The combination of the glossy black background, the golden minute track and the rose gold elements gives this Extra Plat a more pronounced presence than previous, brighter interpretations of the model.

The DR002 calibre, an extra-thin movement developed by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton

The Daniel Roth Extra Plat Rose Gold Gilt is powered by the DR002 calibre, a manually wound mechanical movement developed and assembled by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. This mechanism was specifically designed to meet the constraints of an extra-thin case while maintaining a high level of artisanal finishing.

With a thickness of only 3.1 mm, the movement measures 31 mm by 28 mm. It consists of 143 components and 21 jewels, while providing a power reserve of 65 hours.

The calibre operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 Hz, a rate that ensures accurate timekeeping. Its manual-winding architecture also encourages direct interaction with its owner through a click mechanism designed to provide a distinctive mechanical sensation during winding.

The finishing of the DR002 reflects the work carried out in the workshops of La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. The movement features Geneva stripes, hand-polished bevels, precisely crafted interior angles, mirror-polished steel components and wheels decorated with circular brushing.

The sapphire caseback allows these decorative elements to be observed and highlights a construction designed as much for mechanical performance as for watchmaking aesthetics.

Limited production and a price of CHF 55,000 before taxes

The Daniel Roth Extra Plat Rose Gold Gilt will be available from September 2026. Production is not based on a fixed annual quantity but rather on the maison’s manufacturing capacity, which naturally limits the number of pieces available.

This approach reflects Daniel Roth’s current philosophy, which favours small-batch production with strong artisanal involvement.

The announced price for this DBBD04A1 reference is CHF 55,000 before taxes. The watch joins a collection aimed at haute horlogerie enthusiasts seeking a piece that is both discreet in size and highly refined in execution.
