One of the great strengths of Parmigiani’s Tonda PF family is its softer, more curvaceous take on the integrated sports watch concept. In a segment pioneered by angular, macho forms, this flowing, rounded shape carries its own sort of charm, and this unique character markedly alters how it appears in different colorways. The brand’s latest iteration is a textbook example of this ability to transform familiar color palettes. In a rich rose gold and silver colorway that could easily come across as either too flashy or too delicately feminine, the new Parmigiani Tonda PF Sport Chronograph Rose Gold Sandstone strikes an elegant balance, creating one of the most compelling sports watches of the summer in the process.
As with previous iterations, the Parmigiani Tonda PF Sport Chronograph Rose Gold Sandstone’s 18K rose gold case clocks in at 42mm wide and 12.9mm thick. While these proportions may sound beefy and imposing on the wrist (this is, after all, the sportier iteration of the base Tonda PF silhouette), this design comes off as smaller and more wrist-hugging than many of its similarly-sized competitors. As always, the semi-attached, semi-integrated French curve lugs steal the show here, with a masterfully executed wraparound polished surface that both adds brightwork to the upper case and bisects the horizontal brushing of the case sides. The arcing, teardrop-shaped chronograph pushers naturally mimic these shapes at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock, emphasizing the cohesive, unified feel of the design. Given that this is a Tonda PF Sport model, this new iteration takes on the bolder, more heavily fluted version of the line’s famous sloping “split” bezel, but the idea of this being a chunky, aggressive design is relative. As it stands, there are still 160 individual slim crenellations here, which catch the light smoothly and elegantly on the wrist. Of course, none of this is strictly new, but the rose gold treatment gives this familiar design a touch more punch and gravitas on the wrist. Around back, the Tonda PF Sport Chronograph Rose Gold Sandstone sports a sapphire display caseback, and Parmigiani rates the watch for a decently sporting 100 meters of water resistance.
Although it may not appear as such in all lighting conditions, the Parmigiani Tonda PF Sport Chronograph Rose Gold Sandstone actually uses a two-tone dial. The main dial surface is rendered in bright, finely grained silver, textured with the line’s familiar clou triangulaire guilloche pattern to add a striking array of highlights and shadows. For the recessed outer minutes track and subdials, though, Parmigiani opts for a smooth, matte hue it refers to as “sandstone.” This pale, slightly warm gray tone blends into its surroundings in direct light, but at oblique angles it takes on a subtly darker, warmer tone that lends depth and complexity to a largely minimalist layout. As with previous Tonda PF Sport Chronographs, though, this minimalist presentation is a bit of a double-edged sword. Each of the simple, polished rose gold subdial hands is a touch too short to reach their respective scales, making at-a-glance chronograph readings tricky. With that said, the skeletonized alpha handset and diminutive, sloping indices offer greater contrast against their surroundings than in white metal versions, which helps regular timekeeping legibility somewhat. The Tonda PF Sport line has always kept its dial presentation luxe, but minimal, and for this new iteration Parmigiani takes things a step further in this direction. The Tonda PF Sport Chronograph Rose Gold Sandstone abandons the line’s controversial 4:30 date window, leading to a truly compelling sense of visual balance and flow across the dial.
Like its predecessors, the Parmigiani Tonda PF Sport Chronograph Rose Gold Sandstone is fitted with the in-house PF070 automatic chronograph movement. The PF070’s presentation is largely unchanged from previous iterations, but that’s far from a problem – this remains a breathtaking display through the caseback. Each of the heavily skeletonized bridges is topped with light, crisply defined arabesque waves, and highlighted with beautifully polished anglage. Select elements like the column wheel are lovingly framed by these bridges, striking a thoughtful balance between spectacle and visual intelligibility. The 22K gold rotor atop this movement is another standout, combining brushing, polished anglage, matching raised polished lettering, matte frosting, and sharply defined engraving. Performance-wise, the PF070 is impressive as well, with COSC certified chronometer accuracy alongside a 65 hour power reserve and a buttery smooth 36,000 bph beat rate.
To complete the package, Parmigiani fits the Tonda PF Sport Chronograph Rose Gold Sandstone with a semi-integrated fabric-effect rubber deployant strap. The brand refers to the warm, linen-like off-white hue of this strap as “tufo,” named for a similarly colored volcanic stone found on islands around the Mediterranean. Romantic old-world associations aside, it’s a hue that does feel at home with sunshine and breezy summer wardrobes, and one that complements the pale grays of the subdials attractively without unbalancing the overall presentation. This low-contrast look lets the rose gold case and matching signed deployant clasp shine (literally and figuratively), but adds enough detail and character to reward close appreciation.
Parmigiani’s less aggressive, plusher take on the integrated sports watch may still be a dark horse in this market segment, but its distinctive character allows it to truly shine in colorways that competitors would stumble over. The new Pamigiani Tonda PF Sport Chronograph Rose Gold Sandstone is perhaps the best example of this strength to date, with a brilliant balance between warmth and delicacy that makes it one of the most intriguing sports watches of summer 2025.
