Magic Millions Catalogs 1,280 for Gold Coast Sale

Magic Millions will launch the 2027 Australasian yearling selling season with a catalog of 1,280 lots for its Gold Coast Yearling Sale, featuring a strong representation of proven stallions, 22 first-season sires, and an extensive selection of yearlings from group 1-winning mares.

The catalog, released Nov. 8, comprises 997 lots in Book 1 and a further 283 in Book 2, with selling to take place across five sessions Jan. 12-17.

The offering represents an increase of 59 lots on last year’s catalog of 1,221, with Book 1 expanding marginally from 980 lots from Tuesday, Jan. 12 and Book 2 increasing from 241 on a full day on Sunday.

The opening auction of the Australian yearling sales calendar will provide an important early indication of buying appetite in 2027, following a 2026 edition which generated AU$213.19 million in aggregate sales across both books.

Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch believes the catalog offers buyers a broad selection of yearlings across different price points, supported by the continued racetrack achievements of the auction’s graduates.

“Thanks to the unwavering support of our vendors and breeders across Australasia, we have assembled an outstanding catalog of yearlings to kick away the new year in style,” Bowditch said.

“Our team has inspected a massive number of youngsters and we have brought together an incredibly strong group to fly the Magic Millions flag in January and in the seasons to come on the track.”

The sale arrives on the back of another successful period for its graduates, with Golden Slipper (G1) winner Guest House, Golden Eagle (G1) winner Skyhook and group 1 winners Autumn Boy and Point Barrow among the recent performers highlighted by the auction house. Those results are expected to reinforce the appeal of the sale to established domestic buying groups as well as international investors.

Last January, Book 1 recorded an aggregate of AU$203.81 million from 754 yearlings sold, at an average of AU$270,311 and a median of AU$200,000. The clearance rate was 87.47%, while two yearlings, a Frankel   from Segenhoe and an Extreme Choice  from Kingstar, shared top honors at AU$2 million.

Combined with Book 2, the 2026 auction sold 934 yearlings at an average of AU$228,252, providing a substantial benchmark for the incoming catalog.

With over 120 sires represented, the 2027 offering is particularly notable for its concentration of stock by young stallions, with progeny of several high-profile new recruits set to make their first appearances in the yearling sales ring.

Among them is Newgate Farm’s Golden Rose winner Ozzmosis, whose 47 cataloged yearlings make him the second-most-represented sire across the sale.

Coolmore’s Golden Slipper winner Shinzo also has a sizeable draft, with 39 lots, while fellow newcomers Vinery’s Hawaii Five Oh, Newgate’s King’s Gambit, and Darley’s Cylinder have 27, 24 and 21 yearlings respectively.

Other first-season sires represented include Don Corleone, Alpine Edge, Red Resistance, Mo’unga, Native Trail , Chaldean , Paddington , Panthalassa  , Lofty Strike, Officiating , Triple Time , King Colorado, Sweet Ride, Doull, Empire of Japan, and Benbatl  with a lone yearling by the now gelded Militarize who produced 8 live foals before returning to the racetrack.

The breadth of the freshman offering will provide buyers with their first significant opportunity to assess the physical types being produced by the latest group of stallion recruits, with the subsequent demand for their stock likely to influence the opening stages of the 2027 sales season.

Despite that influx of new blood, it is another relatively young sire, Home Affairs, who heads the catalog yet again, presenting his third crop.

Home Affairs

The Coolmore stallion, whose son Guest House won the Golden Slipper, has an impressive 68 yearlings cataloged, including 67 in Book 1, the highest representation by an individual sire at the Gold Coast January sale in at least six years.

The son of I Am Invincible  has now topped the sire numbers for three consecutive editions, having been represented by 63 first crop yearlings in 2025 and 46 in 2026. His latest offering surpasses the 56 cataloged by Deep Field  in 2022 and the 55 entered by both Written Tycoon  in 2023 and Capitalist in 2024.

Home Affairs is followed by Ozzmosis, Yarraman Park’s evergreen I Am Invincible (45), Widden’s Zoustar  (43) and Shinzo, underlining the blend of established commercial appeal and first-crop interest likely to shape competition in the sales ring.

Farnan is another strongly represented stallion with 37 lots, while Stay Inside (AUS) has 34.

Alabama Express, Hellbent, and Spirit Of Boom  each have 29 yearlings cataloged.

The catalog also features significant representation from the last crop of Arrowfield’s Champion Sire Snitzel as well as Anamoe, Ole Kirk, Tassort, Pierata, and Toronado , offering buyers a broad cross-section of established and emerging sire lines.

For many of the leading breeding operations, the Gold Coast will again represent a substantial commercial commitment.

Widden Stud has the largest draft across both books with 70 yearlings, comprising 50 in Book 1 and 20 in Book 2.

Newgate Farm heads the Book 1 consignments with 63 lots, followed by Arrowfield Stud with 56, Coolmore Stud with 55, and Yulong with 53.

Yarraman Park Stud will offer 39 Book 1 lots, while Sledmere Stud has 34, and Vinery Stud 28.

The size of those drafts reflects the continued importance of the Gold Coast as a marketplace for major Australasian nurseries, with the sale providing access to an extensive domestic and international buying bench.

The catalog’s depth is also reflected in the quality of its female families.

Among the many group 1-winning mares represented are Golden Slipper heroine Estijaab , whose Tassort yearling is cataloged as Lot 71, and Loving Gaby, whose Wootton Bassett yearling will be offered by Coolmore as Lot 286.

Yulong will present an I Am Invincible yearling out of champion New Zealand racemare Melody Belle as Lot 332, while Coolmore has a Justify   yearling out of She’s Extreme as Lot 577.

Another notable offering is the Extreme Choice yearling out of First Seal, cataloged as Lot 96.

Other yearlings from group 1-winning mares include a Home Affairs youngster out of Diamond Drille, consigned by Newgate Farm as Lot 19, and a Pierata yearling out of Chain of Lightning, offered by Segenhoe Stud as Lot 952.

The catalog also includes yearlings out of group 1 winners Aristia, Booker, Global Glamour, In Her Time, Invincibella, Krone, Odeum, and Shout The Bar, among numerous others.

In addition, close relations to elite-level performers including Alligator Blood, Imperatriz, Farnan, Autumn Boy, Magic Time, Light Infantry Man, Angel Capital, and Point Barrow are among the offerings.

For vendors, the Gold Coast will again present the challenge of matching yearlings with an increasingly discerning buying market. Whilst the top end of the global yearling market remains strong through 2026, there may be some apprehension amongst vendors heading into 2027, although Magic Million’s flagship sale regularly provides a remarkably successful start to the new year.

Last year’s Book 1 results demonstrated the buying strength available for highly sought-after individuals, with approximately 360 individual buyers and more than 45 spending in excess of AU$1 million during Book 1.

Arrowfield Stud led the Book 1 vendor aggregates at AU$15.35 million, followed by Coolmore Stud at AU$13.74 million and Newgate Farm at AU$13.27 million.

Leading vendors The Chase and Milburn Creek led the averages in 2026 with AU$538,333 (6) and AU$521,250 (8) respectively, highlighting the strong demand for quality individuals from smaller drafts. Whilst Segenhoe Stud, acquired by Yulong earlier this year, returned an average of AU$459,464 from its 28 Book 1 sales.

With another substantial offering assembled, vendors will be hoping that competition for the catalog’s leading lots can be accompanied by sufficient demand through the middle and lower tiers of the market.

Bowditch is confident the catalog’s diversity will be one of its principal strengths.

“The beauty of the Gold Coast Yearling Sale is that quality yearlings cover so many levels of the market—no matter whether you’re looking for a specific sire or a certain price-point, you will be spoilt for choice,” he said.

Inspections will officially begin Jan. 6, kicking off an action-packed Magic Millions carnival, with the Gold Coast Turf Club hosting the Magic Millions Gold Twilight Meeting Jan. 9. The 10-race program will be highlighted by the AU$2.5 million Magic Millions Sunlight, alongside the AU$1 million Magic Millions QTIS and AU$1 million Magic Millions The Syndicate.

Attention will then turn to Doug Jennings Park Jan. 10 for the Pacific Fair Magic Millions Polo and Showjumping event, ahead of the opening yearling sale session Jan. 12 at 10 a.m.

The carnival will culminate in the traditional Magic Millions race day Jan. 16, featuring the AU$3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic and $3 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, before Book 2 concludes the auction Jan. 17.
