Swiss gold exports rose 6% in September

Swiss gold exports rose 6% in September from August to 165.2 tonnes, their highest level since February 2025, driven by a surge in shipments to Britain that reached the highest monthly level since at least 2012, Swiss customs data showed on Tuesday.

Exports from Switzerland, the world’s biggest bullion refining and transit hub, to Britain rose to 126.2 tonnes in September from 102.1 tonnes in August. Britain is home to the world’s largest over-the-counter gold trading market.

Shipments to China, a major gold consumer, fell 51% month-on-month to 12.7 tonnes in September, while exports to India declined 12% to 3.1 tonnes, the data showed.

Gold traded at a premium in India last week for the first time in more than three months as lower prices boosted jewellery purchases, while demand in top consumer China remained subdued.
