Having spent most of The Odyssey press tour in luminous white, Zendaya pivoted to gold following the film’s New York premiere, continuing the visual language of Athena in a different way.

But why the sudden switch to gold? I hear you ask.
As we’ve come to expect from Zendaya and Law Roach, this wasn’t simply a case of moving on from white. If white represented Athena’s purity, wisdom and divinity throughout the premiere tour, gold introduced another side of the goddess: the warrior.

Press Junket
This Jitrois look is especially revealing. The French house is renowned for sculpting leather like a second skin, and its metallic Massai halter immediately recalled a bronze cuirass, the breastplate worn by ancient Greek warriors.
Athena wasn’t only the goddess of wisdom. She was also the goddess of strategic warfare, and the ribbed metallic construction echoed classical armour far more than a conventional leather top. By extending the skirt from the original look book version, Law Roach softened the silhouette just enough for a day of press while preserving the armour-inspired references.
It marked a subtle evolution of the narrative. The mythology remained, but the execution became more contemporary.

Zendaya’s Zuhair Murad Spring 2013 Couture suit continued that story from a different perspective.
Its rich gold embroidery wasn’t simply another opportunity for Law Roach to demonstrate his unrivalled archive pull. The ornate embellishment evoked the decorative detailing found on ceremonial armour, palace interiors and objects associated with the ancient Greek elite.
Rather than recreating Athena through literal costume dressing, the suit translated her authority into couture. Between the commanding shoulders, gilded embroidery and sharp tailoring, the look reflected Athena’s status as an Olympian while allowing Zendaya to move naturally into the post-premiere phase of the press tour.

Together, these gold looks didn’t abandon the mythology that had defined The Odyssey wardrobe. They expanded it, shifting the focus from the goddess in flowing white to the warrior in gleaming armour. That progression feels far too considered to be accidental, but as we know, nothing is accidental with these two.
Tiffany & Co. and Jessica McCormack jewels completed her looks, along with two pairs of Christian Louboutin pumps: the Miss Z in gold nappa leather for the press junket, and her trusted metallic gold So Kate pumps for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Stylist: Law Roach.
