Amex Platinum card grants instant hotel elite status

American Express Platinum and Business Platinum cardholders can now enroll in complimentary elite status with Marriott, Hilton, and Leading Hotels of the World. Enrollment requires existing loyalty accounts and takes a few business days. These perks help offset the card’s $895 annual fee.

Cardmembers and authorized users can enroll online via the Amex portal under Rewards & Benefits, selecting each hotel program’s tile. Status remains active as long as the card is open, and upgrades apply even if the member previously held lower tiers. Enrollment must precede travel to ensure benefits activate in time.

These statuses deliver tangible perks: Marriott Gold offers 25% bonus points and late checkout; Hilton Gold includes 80% bonus points and breakfast or credit options. Booking through Amex’s Fine Hotels + Resorts program preserves both elite status and program benefits, maximizing value for frequent travelers.

Why it matters

Travelers must enroll before trips to access upgrades, late checkout, or bonus points. Delaying enrollment risks missing out on benefits that justify the card’s high annual fee during peak travel seasons.
