Emsworth Sailing Club is delighted to announce that its 2026 Junior Regatta has been awarded Platinum Clean Regattas accreditation through the Sailors for the Sea programme, the highest level of recognition for environmentally responsible sailing events.

The achievement is particularly significant because the Club was advised that Bronze would be a realistic target for a first application. Instead, the Club exceeded expectations by achieving the programme’s highest level of accreditation on its first submission.
The Clean Regattas programme recognises sailing events that reduce their environmental impact through practical measures such as eliminating single-use plastics, improving recycling and waste management, protecting local waters and wildlife, encouraging sustainable travel and promoting environmental awareness among participants.

Located within the nationally protected landscape of Chichester Harbour, Emsworth Sailing Club is committed to safeguarding the unique environment in which it sails. The Platinum award reflects months of planning and collaboration led by the Club’s Environment Working Group, with representatives from across the Club working together to embed sustainability into every aspect of the Junior Regatta.
The Club also recognises the outstanding support of its members, volunteers, competitors, parents and visitors. From bringing reusable water bottles and reducing waste to supporting recycling initiatives and respecting the harbour’s wildlife, everyone played an important part in achieving the accreditation.
Emsworth Sailing Club Commodore, Craig Summers said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive the Platinum accreditation for our Junior Regatta. This achievement belongs to the entire Club and reflects the enthusiasm and commitment of our members, volunteers and participants, who embraced the environmental initiatives we introduced, as well as the hard work of our Environment Working Group. We are especially proud to have achieved the highest level of accreditation on our first application and hope our success encourages other clubs to take similar steps towards a more sustainable future.”
The Club views this award as an important milestone rather than a final destination. Environmental sustainability will continue to be embedded across future events as Emsworth Sailing Club works to protect the waters, wildlife and landscapes that make sailing in Chichester Harbour so special.
