Precious Metals Analysis: Gold, Silver, Platinum, Palladium Outlook by CPM Group – News and Statistics

In a recent analysis, Jeffrey Christian of CPM Group examined the recent declines in precious metals prices, attributing the moves to investor selling, profit-taking, short selling, and substantial flows of metal returning to refineries. The presentation, made available by Monetary Metals, covered the gold price outlook, a silver market update, weakness in platinum and palladium, ETF selling, Comex silver inventory levels, inflation data, and the upcoming Federal Reserve interest rate decision.

Christian noted that gold recently tested the $4,100 area and suggested that prices could spike toward $3,800 during a volatile consolidation phase before moving higher later in the year. For silver, he reviewed its pullback toward the mid-$60s and highlighted the risk of a break below $50. CPM Group expects silver to continue consolidating over the next several months.

Addressing claims that Comex is running out of silver, Christian reviewed registered and eligible Comex inventory levels, July silver open interest, and the futures roll. He explained that depositary receipts can change hands without creating the panic that some silver squeeze narratives suggest.

Christian also discussed Federal Reserve interest rates, noting that they are expected to remain unchanged at the upcoming FOMC meeting.
