Sam Ryder releases What’s The Buzz ahead of London Palladium musical debut – Theatre News

Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Sam Ryder has released “What’s The Buzz,” the second official studio recording from the highly anticipated West End revival of Jesus Christ Superstar. The track arrives via The Other Songs label ahead of Ryder making his theatrical West End debut in the titular role of Jesus this summer at the world-famous London Palladium.

Featuring timeless music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, “What’s The Buzz” follows the tremendous chart success of the production’s first single, “Gethsemane,” which peaked in the Top 25 after Ryder delivered a powerhouse live performance on Britain’s Got Talent. In stark contrast to the emotional vocal acrobatics of the previous release, the new single is heavily infused with funk and 1970s sonic influences. Recorded live to tape at the renowned British Grove Studios, the infectiously rhythmic track showcases Ryder’s vast vocal range and versatility, driven by a prominent bassline and intricate guitar and synthesizer solos.

The track was co-produced by Ryder and Lloyd Webber alongside Grammy Award-winning producer Fraser T. Smith, who has previously helmed chart-topping hits for major international stars including Adele, Stormzy, Dave, and Raye. Both new tracks have been pressed onto a striking white 10-inch vinyl edition, which will go on public sale at the theatre starting on the production’s official opening night.

Directed by Tim Sheader and produced by Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals, the strictly limited engagement is scheduled to run at The London Palladium for 11 weeks from Saturday, June 20, to Saturday, September 5, 2026. Due to unprecedented ticket demand that has already shattered venue box office records, the highly anticipated theatrical run has earned an early extension. The show will transfer for an additional 12-week winter engagement at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, running from Friday, October 16, 2026, to Saturday, January 9, 2027, with Ryder officially confirmed to continue his leading performance as Jesus throughout the winter season.
