Wetherspoon pub crawl bus tour in North Wales goes viral

A total of 106 passengers signed for the novelty day trip, being run by Lloyd Coaches.

The whistle-stop pub pilgrimage will take passengers on a 13-hour, 250-mile scenic journey through North Wales and borders, a route that takes in six-Wetherspoon venues in a single day: The Wilfred Owen in Oswestry; The Castle Hotel in Ruthin; The Picture House in Colwyn Bay; The Palladium in Llandudno and Tafarn Y Porth in Caernarfon.

The tour will conclude at The Pen Cob in Pwllheli.

Passengers can enjoy a quick drink or admire the historic architecture at the venues. Many Wetherspoon pubs are created within unique buildings: The Palladium, for example, is a former theatre and cinema and is described as the UK’s most beautiful ‘Spoons’; The Picture House is the former Princess cinema and The Castle Hotel is a magnificent Georgian building dating back to circa 1730.

Daniel King, of Lloyds Coaches, said the public’s appetite for a ‘Spoons Safari’ completely blew them away. After launching tickets for the tour, one coach filled up so quickly, a second one was opened up to meet demand.

Both coaches sold out entirely within 24 hours of launching.

Mr King said: “The reaction was immediate. We initially put one coach on sale, and it filled up so fast that we opened up a second to meet demand. Both coaches – completely filling two vehicles – sold out entirely within 24 hours of launching. The seats were flying out faster than a Friday night drink order.

“We have a total of 106 passengers confirmed and ready to board. It’s going to be an incredible atmosphere with a fantastic mix of people all looking forward to a legendary day out.”

Asked what the idea was behind the tour, Mr King said: “We regularly organise pub crawls for private hires, like hen and stag dos, and they’re always a massive hit.

“Given how popular those are, we started thinking about what we could offer as a standalone, quirky Day Trip.”

The day consists of a 13-hour, 250-mile scenic journey through the heart of North Wales and the borders, solving the age-old ‘who’s driving?’ debate.

Passengers will get to spend time in each of the Wetherspoon pubs.

Mr King said: “We’ve mapped out a route hitting six different Wetherspoon pubs, starting at The Wilfred Owen in Oswestry and wrapping up at The Pen Cob in Pwllheli.

“At each stop, passengers will have around 45 minutes to hop off, stretch their legs, and enjoy what the venue has to offer – whether they’re in it for a quick pint of real ale, an affordable bite to eat, or just to admire the historic architecture and the legendary unique carpet patterns.”

Lloyds Coaches’ organised day trip bookings in 2025 were up 282 per cent compared to 2024.

“That momentum hasn’t stopped,” Mr King said.

“We are already up another 35 per cent so far this year.

“A Wetherspoon pilgrimage across North Wales felt like the perfect, fun addition to our calendar.”

Mr King added: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who booked and shared the tour online; our original post went completely viral with hundreds of thousands of views.

“Wetherspoon has a strangely legendary status in British culture, and combining that with a beautiful, stress-free drive through Wales just resonated with people.

“Whether our passengers are real ale enthusiasts, architecture buffs, or just looking for a unique day out with friends, we can’t wait to welcome them on board for what promises to be an unforgettable trip.”
