Driving DEI: Kia UK Shifts Gears With Silver Membership In Automotive 30% Club Membership

KIA

Kia UK, a pioneer in the automotive industry’s drive for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), has heightened its presence within the Automotive 30% Club by attaining Silver membership. This move underscores Kia’s leadership role in fostering a workplace where EDI principles thrive.

Since its inception in 2016, Kia UK has been a trailblazer as one of the first 12 members of the Automotive 30% Club. The club, founded to address the critical need for inclusive leadership in the automotive industry, focuses on cultivating a culture that supports diverse, skilled teams. The voluntary members, including Kia UK, aim to achieve a minimum of 30% women in key leadership positions across their organisations by 2030.

As a Silver member, Kia actively engages with patrons and sponsors of the club, participating in quarterly discussions on crucial topics and challenges facing the industry. The collaborative effort seeks to bring about a gender-balanced automotive sector, fostering inclusive leadership and embracing diversity to navigate the industry’s transformative era successfully.

Kia’s commitment to DEI is evident in its recently launched Inclusion Plan, covering leadership, recruitment, talent development, and employee support. The company collaborated with Moving Ahead to provide inclusive leadership training for its staff, challenging gender stereotypes, addressing discrimination, and highlighting biases. The company has also reviewed its policies, recruitment practices, and development strategies to enhance diversity within its workforce.

In recognition of its efforts, the OEM secured a spot in the 2023 Best Workplaces for Women list by Great Place To Work, affirming its dedication to creating a positive and supportive work environment for everyone.

Paul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia UK, stated, ‘Kia is now driving further progress in terms of the profile, representation, and development of women. We want to be a brand that creates opportunities for everyone and is recognized for doing this.’

Julia Muir, CEO, Gaia Innovation and Founder of the UK Automotive 30% Club, highlighted Kia’s ‘Power On’ strategy, emphasising increased female representation and diversity within the dealer network, reflecting collaboration and partnership under Paul Philpott’s leadership.

Kia UK’s Silver membership in the Automotive 30% Club solidifies its dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, contributing to the ongoing transformation of the automotive industry.
