Edwardian silver centrepiece to be auctioned by Charterhouse

The piece will be auctioned at Charterhouse’s specialist sale of silver, jewellery, and watches, taking place at its Sherborne salerooms on July 22 and 23.

Richard Bromell said: “It is certainly an impressive piece which has survived over 120 years in great condition.

“I suspect this is down to having avoided the attention of an over-enthusiastic cleaner who could have worn much of the detail away with regular cleaning.”

The table centrepiece was crafted in 1903 by the Sheffield silversmiths Walker & Hall.

It features an oval cut glass bowl set above a detailed silver base adorned with ribbon ties, scrolling foliage, and floral swags.

The piece also includes two dancing figures.

Weighing approximately 2.5kg and standing 35cm tall, it is expected to sell for between £2,500 and £3,500.

Charterhouse, based at The Long Street Salerooms in Sherborne, offers valuations for individual items, collections, and full house contents.
