The Grantham swimmer, 22, joined forces with Leah Schlosshan, Freya Anderson and Eva Okaro in the 4x100m freestyle event to finish second on the opening night of action in Glasgow.
The English team touched the wall four seconds behind a strong Australian outfit as South Africa bagged bronze ahead of Scotland. And Anderson, an Olympic relay gold medallist from the Tokyo Games, was delighted to get off to a flyer ahead of the team’s individual programmes.
She said: “I feel good and it’s a nice way to start – especially doing a relay with the girls. To get off with a silver medal is really special and helps build momentum for the week.
“It was nice to blow the cobwebs away and hopefully keep building on it throughout the week.”
It was quite a night at the Tolcross International Swimming Centre as home favourite Duncan Scott claimed a stirring gold medal for Team Scotland.
Scott, Team GB’s most decorated swimmer in Olympic history, claimed a fourth Commonwealth crown in the 200m individual medley ahead of British teammate Tom Dean, who memorably beat him in Tokyo.
The atmosphere in the venue was electric and Anderson admits watching that race helped propel Team England onto the podium.
“The crowd was really good,” she added. “Even before we got out there I was watching the other races and seeing Duncan win was amazing.”
“Even though it might not be a home Games for us as such, it’s nice to use it and pretend that it is.”
