Jewellery has always been taken seriously in my family – especially rings. Adorning my fingers with something precious has been part of my daily routine for as long as I can remember. I never feel fully dressed without one. Gold or silver, bezel-set or vintage, choosing my jewels to match with my outfit is always a considered choice. And then the Oura ring burst onto the scene – and onto the fingers of beauty journalists the world over. This sleek, titanium band promised to make sense of my sleepless nights, anxiety outbursts and late night cravings, so of course I was intrigued. The only caveat? I had to commit to wearing it every single day. Teamed with every single outfit. As someone who loves to mix up her jewels, it was the one thing stopping me from hitting the check out button. Until one day, when scrolling through my FYP, I realised my prayers had been answered. Oura ring covers have arrived.
To be clear, there is lots to love about the Oura ring. Take the word of multiple A-listers, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston and Prince Harry, who have all been papped wearing the tech ring. Embedded with discreet sensors that measure 50 health and wellness metrics (yes, really) it provides the wearer with valuable insights into a host of health concerns. Expect a deep-dive into your sleep, fitness and metabolism – just to name a few. Of course, for maximised accuracy it is advised to keep the monotoned band on all-day.
‘Technology companies focus more on functionality, but the problem is that everything is starting to look the same and lack personality,’ says Steff Eleoff, a Toronto-based jeweller whose eponymous label recently launched a tech ring covers range. It was one of Eleoff’s handcrafted creations that first caught my eye on TikTok. Specifically the ‘Teardrop’, an 18K gold-plated sculptural piece, set with a diamond Swarovski crystal. ‘For me, I leave the house excited to be accessorised and simply put, my tech ring just didn’t go with my other pieces,’ she adds.

Crafting tech ring covers were Eleoff’s natural progression into making wellness wearables, well, wearable. Alongside the ‘teardrop’, the range features two distinct designs inspired by the brand’s signature ‘liquid language’, illustrated with flowy forms and devised in gold and silver iterations. It’s an invitation to play and bring an art lens to the technology world. ‘We’re bringing the fun back into design, and I think that’s where the future of technology should head,’ says Eleoff.
With more jewellery brands starting to follow suit and tech companies being urged to collaborate with creatives, there is a lingering hope that wearable tech is getting its (much needed) fashion-coded transformation. Let’s be real, who wouldn’t be up for sporting iconic bedazzled silhouettes, ‘70s style knuckle-dusters and sculptural metals with the promise of holistic wellness? Needless to say, my Oura ring is now en route.
