Guj Kickboxer Manisha: Guj kickboxer Manisha wins silver in Delhi meet | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: Balancing professional and sporting careers and carrying a knee injury, Gujarat kickboxer Manisha Vala secured a silver medal at the 3rd Indian Open International Kickboxing tournament organised by WAKO India held in New Delhi.Kickboxing refers to the sport of combining technique and style of boxing with kicking. It is a standing sport and does not allow continuation of the fight once a combatant has reached the ground. Manisha, who hails from Kodinar in Gir Somnath district, won the medal in the 70kg category. She failed to defend the gold she had won in the 65kg category at the 2nd Indian Open International Kickboxing tournament. After receiving a bye in the quarterfinal, she defeated Ishika, also from Gujarat, in the semifinal. In the final, she suffered a 5-6 loss to Maharashtra’s Smita Walhekar. Manisha said she was happy with the result but an accident nearly a year prior to the tournament caused a swelling on her leg from which she is yet to recover fully.“I hope to complete recovery in one month. With the job that I currently do, I enjoy less time for practice and rest,” said Manisha, who is employed with CInI project of Tata Trusts, as monitoring and evaluation executive, in Vadodara. She said she is focusing on improving her techniques with an eye on the Nationals to be held in July in Kolkata, the Asian Indoor championship and World championship towards the end of the year.
