Lady Peace, national parks highlight Mint’s November releases

The Royal Canadian Mint’s November releases offer collectors a selection of coins celebrating Canadian history, national symbols and natural landscapes, alongside several premium precious-metal issues.

Eight products were released Nov. 3, including new designs featuring Lady Peace, Canada’s coat of arms and Quebec’s Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve.

Among the more conventional offerings is a 2027-dated $1 Fine silver Lady Peace coin, featuring a winged female figure holding a laurel wreath. Designed by Julien R. Duguay, the coin draws inspiration from the allegorical figure of Peace associated with the National War Memorial in Ottawa. Struck in 99.99 per cent pure silver, it has a worldwide mintage of 7,000. A $200 gold version of the design is also available, with a considerably smaller mintage of 500.

Collectors of Canadian landscapes will find another addition in the 2026 $20 Fine silver coin celebrating Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve in Quebec. Designed by Jean-Luc Hervieux, the selectively coloured reverse features the region’s distinctive limestone monoliths, coastal scenery and two red Adirondack chairs. The coin concludes the Mint’s four-coin Canada’s National Parks series and has a mintage of 7,000.

Another release is the 2027 $50 Heraldic Homage silver coin, concluding a three-year series celebrating Canada’s heraldic symbols. Designed by Cathy Bursey-Sabourin, the coin features an artistic interpretation of Canada’s coat of arms in unusually high relief. The issue has a worldwide mintage of 2,000, while a separate one-kilogram silver Maple Leaf coin, designed by Nathalie Lagacé, is limited to 700 pieces.

At the premium end of the November lineup is a massive 10-kilogram gold coin commemorating the 20th anniversary of Canada’s famous 2007 Million Dollar Coin. The 2027-dated $100,000 issue features Stan Witten’s original three-maple-leaf design, is struck in 99.999 per cent pure Canadian gold and has a worldwide mintage of just 20. Other premium offerings include a one-ounce gold coin depicting a tiger and dragon surrounding a yin-yang symbol, along with a 10-gram gold bar celebrating the 2027 Lunar Year of the Goat.

The eight releases reflect the Mint’s continuing efforts to appeal to traditional collectors while expanding its offerings for the premium precious-metals market. For full details on each release, including designs, specifications and mintages, be sure to read the next issue of Canadian Coin News (Vol. 64, No. 15).
