PELLA, Iowa – Saint John’s wrestling recorded five top-two finishes, including three titles, in the silver brackets of Central’s Under Armour Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 6.
Sophomore Zachariah Hunter (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) led the Johnnies with three pins, including two against SJU teammates, to win the 12-man 197-pound bracket and is now 7-3 on the season.
Junior Cage Linton (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) matched Hunter’s 3-0 record to win the 184-pound title and freshman Connor Krueger (Superior, Wis.) posted a 2-0 mark to win the 141-pound bracket. Krueger is now 13-6 on the year.
A pair of freshmen – Cody Kwak (Ridgeland, Wis./Menomonie) and Aidan Wayne (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) – both went 3-1 with a pair of pins to place second at heavyweight and 197 pounds, respectively. Kwak improved to 12-8 with a team-best nine pins, while Wayne is now 11-8.
The Johnnies travel to Grand Rapids for Minnesota North-Itasca’s invitational at 11:30 a.m. next Saturday, Jan. 13.
