Is it worth investing in bitcoin if I’m Gen X?

00:00 Speaker A

I am a Bitcoin virgin, okay? So I am curious, what does it take for a Gen Xer to get involved? because I’m never going to use Bitcoin. So the only reason I would buy

00:11 Speaker B

One could argue that no one will ever use Bitcoin.

00:13 Speaker A

Good point. I would only buy it for an investment, but like at my age, I’m kind of feeling like it passed me by and like, I don’t know. So like, I don’t know, is I’m okay with missing Bitcoin, I think.

00:27 Speaker C

I worked there.

00:27 Kenny

I think you can have a little bit of exposure to Bitcoin. You don’t have to make it a big part of your the portfolio. Well, if you want exposure to it because you kind of want to be in that space, you know to feel it, you know, if you have a small one or two% position, nothing that’s going to destroy you if it goes

00:39 Speaker A

Right.

00:41 Kenny

zero. Because that’s how I play it, right? I have a tiny position so it keeps my feet wet, I kind of feel it, but I, but it’s not my focus.

00:48 Speaker D

Kenny, don’t you think you can turn it into a strategy? We have a, we have a digital asset strategy. So we own Ethereum and Bitcoin, and then we own a number of the names like Robin Hood and Coinbase and

00:57 Kenny

Yeah, yeah. No, I think you can, but I don’t think you need to be, you know, you need to be, to, you know, to your point, you should have some exposure.

01:03 Speaker A

Right.

01:05 Kenny

But nothing that’s going to destroy you.

01:07 Speaker A

I mean, it feels a little like, um, either Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees, like they keep trying to kill it and it just Bitcoin just keeps returning. And at some point, like I just feel like it’s going to keep going. I don’t know.

01:21 Speaker C

You know it’s go ahead.

01:22 Speaker C

It’s well, it’s just hard for me as an investor. Like so and I own some crypto too and I worked at Ripple for a while as a chief market strategist there. Um, and I’ve helped start brain trust, a a really fan fascinating crypto project or fascinating marketplace as well. But it’s hard to go to sleep at night if you don’t know the thing has some fundamental value.

01:36 Speaker A

Right.

01:37 Speaker C

actually is is actually being used. So if you think to me, I just can’t, it’s I can’t put a lot of money into a thing that isn’t being used a lot.

01:42 Speaker A

Yeah, that’s what I struggle with, right.

01:43 Speaker D

But you can put a little like

01:44 Kenny

It’s it’s greater fool theory, right?

01:45 Speaker D

It’s like gold.

01:46 Speaker A

But or the idea of of of using it as currency, but there’s 15, 20% swings overnight. Like

01:52 Speaker B

Well, and and when you’re investing in Ether, you’re already a Cleveland Browns fan.

01:55 Speaker B

I mean, like, you know, faith is a belief in things unseen. If you’re going to belong to the Cleveland Browns, I don’t think you need Bitcoin.
