The Telegraph is facing an investigation by the National Crime Agency following a report of suspicious financial activity at the newspaper group, according to senior sources at the company.
The crime agency is said to have received a report outlining concerns of possible financial wrongdoing at the group ahead of a sale of the 168-year-old newspaper.
The NCA is alerted to possible financial wrongdoings at companies by individuals in regulated industries such as accounting, law and finance. The agency must also be notified of suspicious activity ahead of corporate transactions.
