  • He was seen being helped into the water and led back to his lounge chair by a group of younger men
  • In June, Soros announced that his 38-year-old son, Alex, would take the helm of the family’s fortune

Philanthropist George Soros was spotted relaxing in Barbados just months after he ceded control of his $25 billion empire to his son Alex.

Soros, 93, waded into the crystalline waters with the help of several younger men at a beach in Bridgetown, the island’s capital city.

The men then helped him back onto the beach after his swim, where he lounged on a shaded chair out of reach of the glaring sun.

In June, Soros handed over his empire to 38-year-old Alex, who vowed to use the family’s fortune to advocate for causes including voter rights and gender equality.

The Hungarian-born billionaire had a net worth of approximately $6.7 billion as of October 2023, having built his impressive wealth managing hedge funds.

His nonprofit network, the Open Society Foundations, direct about $1.5 billion each year to groups that back human rights around the globe. Alex was elected chairman in December 2023, replacing his father.

Over the years Soros has thrown millions behind liberal district attorneys through outright donations or political action committees, which right-wing critics attribute to a breakdown of law and order across the United States.
