DLA Piper strengthens Frankfurt private equity practice with two former Paul Hastings partners


DLA Piper has expanded its private equity capabilities in Frankfurt with the arrival of Gerd Hegele as partner and Frederik Mühl as senior counsel. Both join from Paul Hastings, bringing experience in advising financial investors on M&A transactions, particularly in the infrastructure and data centre sectors.

Effective October 1, 2026, the appointments reinforce DLA Piper’s private equity practice in Germany, adding expertise in sectors that have become increasingly relevant to private capital investors.

Hegele joins as a partner, while Mühl takes up the role of senior counsel. Both were most recently with US law firm Paul Hastings, where they advised financial investors on mergers and acquisitions.

Their practices focus in particular on infrastructure and data centres, two areas attracting growing interest from private equity and other financial investors.

The appointments strengthen DLA Piper’s Frankfurt offering in private equity and reflect the firm’s continued investment in its German transactional capabilities.
